#AASLH17 Session: Lessons Learned from Broadway’s Hamilton

As we prepare for the 2017 Annual Meeting in Austin, the Educators and Interpreters Affinity Group Committee is trying an experiment. We’re giving presenters who are chairing sessions with education and interpretation themes a chance to give readers a little more information about them – a teaser, if you will. We’ll share two to three sessions each week. We hope this will be helpful to prospective conference attendees and presenters alike. Please share your thoughts and comments with us!

Session: History Has Its Eyes on You: Lessons Learned from Broadway’s Hamilton

DON’T THROW AWAY YOUR SHOT……to join Hamilton superfans as we mine this cultural juggernaut for interpretive inspiration.Through the intersection of historic and contemporary themes, deliberate inclusivity, collaboration, commitment to the highest artistic and intellectual ideals, Hamilton’s creators ensured an experience that informs and inspires without idealizing. This session will survey the cultural landscape, and highlight programs and insights from Indiana Historical Society, Monticello, and the Penn Museum that leverage Hamilton’s lessons to help us move towards a more inclusive future. You’ll leave with solid ideas for how to apply these lessons in your institution’s work (and maybe a musical earworm or two!) See you Friday at 4pm!
