AASLH Announces Hurricane Cultural Relief Fund Grantees

Twenty-six recipients in Texas, Georgia, and Florida receive funds

NASHVILLE, TN—The American Association for State and Local History (AASLH) announces the twenty-six recipients of Hurricane Cultural Relief Fund mini-grants to aid organizations in disaster recovery from Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. This fund, initiated in September, raised $14,000 to provide emergency funds for organizations to use for recovery supplies, restoration work, and salvage activities necessitated by the storms.

“Seeing the devastation across parts of Texas the week before the AASLH Annual Meeting in Austin spurred us to take action,” said John Dichtl, AASLH President & CEO. “We are so grateful for the generosity of the history community and are honored to be able to provide an avenue to help institutions that were affected.”

Donors contributed $14,000 in just over a month for this fund. Hurricane Cultural Relief Fund mini-grants will be used to repair structures, preserve collections, and help organizations prepare to re-open so they can continue to serve the public with their missions of education and cultural engagement.
