The deadline for the “Early Bird” rate for the 2015 AASLH annual meeting is fast approaching. The Religious History Affinity Group invites you to register and join us at the meeting.Pleasant Hill

The affinity group is sponsoring two events at the meeting. On Friday at 2:15pm is the session “Interpreting Religion at Historic Sites.” Organized and chaired by Susan Fletcher, historian for The Navigators, this session will explore the interpretation of religious history at sites of memory and conscience, civic sites, and sites of a religious nature.

Join us Saturday at 7:30am as we kick off the last day of the conference by gathering together for the Religious History breakfast. We will hear from Aaron Genton, program specialist at Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill. Aaron will talk about the Shakers of Pleasant Hill, their beliefs, and the way the site has shared their story. (See future blog post for more information about Shaker Village at Pleasant Hill.)

Since 2007, the first time I attended the annual meeting, I’ve come to value the professional development opportunities AASLH provides. As valuable as these opportunities are, more important are the associations I have made with history professionals from around the county. I look forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones at this year’s annual meeting in Louisville, Kentucky.
