By Kristin Gallas, Interpreting Slavery

Ever feel like there is a lot of potential that goes untapped at conferences?  Let’s change that. Join us on September 27 at the AASLH conference in Kansas City for a brainstorming session on the challenges of interpreting slavery.

With nearly a century of combined experience to draw on, this panel will address interpretive conundrums surrounding slavery or its legacies that YOU bring to the conference.  Panelists Christian Cotz (Montpelier), Linnea Grim (Monticello), Richard Josey (Collective Journeys), and Joe McGill (The Slave Dwelling Project), and facilitator Kristin Gallas (Interpreting Slavery) will discuss and toss around solutions with the audience.

At the session, you will:

  • Meet and interact with new colleagues who are interpreting slavery at their sites or museums
  • Consider multiple ways to problem solve
  • Think about interpretation of slavery from a new, creative angle
  • Feel inspired to try something new when you return to work

The session is on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at 10:45 am. Help us prep for the session by emailing us your site’s problem or question to [email protected] by Friday, September 21.  Your questions and concerns will serve as the foundation for the session’s discussion. If requested, questions will remain anonymous.

We look forward to seeing you!
