HistoryMiami is pleased to announce the promotion of Jorge Zamanillo from Vice President of Expansion to museum deputy director and Michael Knoll from Folklorist to Vice President of Curatorial Affairs. The museum also announced the addition of Mandy Baca as Marketing Manager and Zatara McIntyre as Education Programs Registrar.

Jorge Zamanillo joined HistoryMiami in 2000 as the Curator of Object Collections. While overseeing the care and growth of the material culture collection, Zamanillo also curated numerous exhibitions, including the renovation of the museum’s prehistory and archaeology section First Arrivals and Crime in Miami. In his most recent position as Vice President of Expansion, Zamanillo served as the liaison between HistoryMiami and Miami-Dade County in regards to the museum’s expansion and renovation of the Miami-Dade Cultural Center Plaza.

For the past five years, Michael Knoll has served as Folklorist at HistoryMiami. In this capacity, he directed the activities of the South Florida Folklife Center, dedicated to documenting, presenting, and supporting the region’s traditional arts and cultural heritage. As Folklorist, Knoll curated the nationally award-winning exhibition, The Guayabera: A Shirt’s Story, chronicling the history of the traditional shirt, which is popular in Latin American and the Caribbean and organized Some Like It Hot, a street art exhibition featuring the work of Miami-based artists.

Mandy Baca joins the HistoryMiami Communications Department from the InterContinental Miami where she served as the Marketing & Communications Manager overseeing the hotel’s overall marketing and public relations efforts, following a $30 million renovation. She was also the lead of brand development and promotions for the hotel’s newest restaurant concept Toro Toro Restaurant and Bar. Baca holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Hospitality Management from Johnson & Wales University as well as a Master of Arts degree in Italian Gastronomy and Tourism from the University of Gastronomic Sciences.

Zatara McIntyre, the new Education Programs Registrar, comes to HistoryMiami from the Boca Raton Museum of Art where she managed the museum’s volunteer program and coordinated activities for school tours on behalf of the Education Department. McIntyre holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art and a minor in Art History. She is the recipient of the Badia Spice Scholarship and the Medallion Scholar Award. Her writing has also been featured in the Miami Dade College Arts and Writing Magazine.
